ghd; my new babies

Beautiful!
Readers, meet my new ghd's. This is the box they came in, and where they will continue to live a very long and happy life. They are my new babies and I will love and protect them from being stood on, scratches and day-to-day life.

I'm sure you're all familiar with the brand. This is the brand that people gasp and exclaim “how much?!” when you tell them how much you paid for them, but believe me, the cost is definitely worth it. About seven years ago I bought my first pair and they’ve been a dream, they only just started to show signs of being on their way out before Christmas which really impressed me as I used them at least six days out of seven per week. I really loved how straight they made my hair, and how I could create loose waves and curls with the very same product.

The new gold classic stylers are a modern take on the first stylers brought out. These appear more streamline and sleeker than the originals.

"Glimmering gold accents and plates and an enhanced design give the ghd gold classic styler a luxe feel. Smoother gold plates glide effortlessly through the hair to make straightening on all hair types and lengths even quicker and easier, while their contoured edges help to create perfect curls and waves, all with a high shine, salon-style finish."

The new ghd's come in a box with a plastic/faux velvet insert which holds the straighteners, instructions and their new inclusion - a heat resistant protective plate guard, intact. The plate guard is perfect for styling in a hurry, simply use the straighteners then pop the plate guard on to protect any surfaces from buring - remember to switch off and unplug your ghd's first though! What I do like about the new take on the modern classic is the fact its slightly lighter than the older model, and I don't have to clamp my hair in the plates as hard as I felt I had too with my old pair. The ghd Gold Series stylers are designed to operate at 175°C - 185°C, so I highly recommend a good heat protection spray. The new styler has a swivel power cord of about 2.7m in length, and take roughly about thirty seconds to heat up, and once maximum temperature has been reached, three consecutive beeps will sound, indicating that the styler is ready to use - something the old model never used to do, and the logo on the switch will remain lit, whereas the LED on the old model would flash. And the best part for the safety conscious among you? A sleep-mode. After thirty minutes of not being used, the heated plates will automatically switch off, and while in sleep mode the light will flash and a warning beep will sound every twenty seconds. To resume styling, simply switch the stylers off and back on again and you're all set to carry on. Again, the warning beep is a great addition as I’m not the only person who switches on their straighteners and get’s distracted doing my make up that I forget how long they’ve actually been switched on for.

Nowadays, ghd’s come in classic, mini, max and salon style, so whether you’re male or female, have thick or thin hair, want defined waves or poker straight locks, there’s a type out there for you. Their new limited edition collection also comes in an array of fabulous colours; rich ruby, sahara gold, shimmering silver and pink cherry blossom, which all come with a quilted case which doubles as a handy heat-resistant mat. They also do a fantastic range of hair styling products, including brushes, and a ghd air hair dryer, which retails at £99 from their official website. Whatever my desired style, ghd never fail to disappoint. Even with the use of product on my hair, they still give me a smooth, sleek, glamorous look.

I decided with my old one being on their way out that I’d but myself some new ones, which to my surprise only to be told by my boyfriend he was going to buy me some for Christmas a a surprise – so I therefore ruined my surprise but I was very happy at this news. Turns out he was planning to get me the pink cherry blossom ones but as they retailed at an extra £30 compared to the classic ones, I said I'd rather he just get the classic ones and save money because we're hopefully buying a house at the end of this year.

Prices for ghd’s range from £99 to £135 and can be bought from ghd’s official website here or from all good department store retailers.
