The Topshop Boot Debacle

Wednesday 1st August 2012

Honestly, no wrong can be done by Topshop in my eyes, but I have been so disappointed this week. Where do I even begin?

Beautiful, but useless.
I feel in love with these boots as soon as I saw them. I don’t earn that much and my car tax is due, so at £40, they were a big buy. (I’m dragging out my 10% student discount! It’s valid until 2012 and I don’t graduate until November.) They were the last in my size, so I carried them round the store, visualising myself at that Halestorm gig in September wearing them with a black mini, band t-shirt or slouchy vest, leather jacket and tights. I planned to wear them with EVERYTHING, floral dresses, skinny jeans, the gorgeous slouchy khaki jumper I can’t afford, but then I noticed a fault. On one boot, the stitching was coming away at the back, and there was a mark down the front that I can only describe as a track mark. I told a store assistant and they managed to find a pair at another local store in my size, so I rushed there, bought them and promptly gushed and bragged and made them at home in my wardrobe.

The next day, I must have worn them for less than three hours. I went from the car, to TGI Friday’s, across the road and back to the car, and it was only when I was showing them off to my boyfriend’s parents, that I saw that the rubber sole near the toe had a chunk missing, as though it had crumbled.

I managed to get them refunded, but not without the shop assistants asking several times if I had caught them or scraped them. I then got a dirty look when I told them that for the price of them and VERY little wear, I should hope they wouldn’t react like that. I assumed that as I’ve never had a problem with Topshop’s clothes, the shoes would be good quality too. I can’t find another pair of boots like this anywhere, and I am so disappointed!

So the hunt begins. A pair of black ankle boots – preferably not suede as I want them for all weathers, preferably with a 2-3 inch heel, or flat for everyday wear, with a slightly rock/grungy feel to them and round toes. Boots that will go with dresses, tights and a leather jacket but equally well with jeans and a band t-shirt or vest. In short, the boots I returned, but not those as I’ve lost all faith in them.

Too much to ask? Probably. Will it stop the search? Never.

Crimson. X
